Celebrating National Nurses Day & Honoring National Nurses Week May 6th – May 12th, 2022

National Nurses Day is on May 6th, 2022, and starts off National Nurses Week.

At UAW Stellantis, we are proud to represent the hard-working and dedicated Nurses in the Salaried Bargaining Unit who work hard each and every day in Locals 412 and 1302 to keep us safe & healthy.

National Nurses Week takes place this year between Friday, May 6 through Thursday, May 12, 2022, each year in recognition of Florence Nightingale’s birthday in 1820. While Nightingale is referred to as the founder of modern nursing and made significant impacts on healthcare reform, much of it started with her strict use of handwashing and hygiene practices while caring for wounded soldiers in Crimea reduced the hospitals death rate by two-thirds.

We are grateful for all the contributions all Nurses make for all of us everywhere and appreciate their skill, dedication, and advocacy for their patients. Thank you for all you do to keep the Membership safe!

Stellantis Production Way (SPW) Training for Team Leaders at the Training Center

During the 1st and 2nd quarters of 2022 the Stellantis Production Way Academy located inside of the National Training Center (NTC) provided negotiated training for North American manufacturing UAW Team leaders. Providing this training was a way to effectively utilize scheduled downtime for Team Leaders at Detroit Assembly Complex Jefferson (DACJ).

The academy facilitated 280 Team Leaders and 65 supervisors during six of DACJ’s down weeks.  These bargaining unit employees were able to avoid utilizing some of their sub-credits and remained on roll during their perspective weeks of training.

As a part of the training session, Team Leaders were able to address concerns with their Local President and Plant manager prior to their upcoming launch.   2019 negotiated Team Leader Roles and Responsibilities were distributed and the Team Leaders provided constructive dialogue to better understand needs and conditions.

Toledo Assembly Complex Team Leaders and Supervisors were also provided SPW training during the 1st Quarter of 2022.  These trainings bolster Product Quality and Job Security in line with World Class Employee Participation.

The Academy has accommodated the training needs of the membership and will continue to provide support for the new manufacturing fundamentals as they work to improve quality and productivity.  Training will continue during the 2nd and 3rd quarters with participants coming from all Divisions including Assembly, Stamping, and Powertrain.

NLRB Victory for SBU Members at DACM

The UAW-Stellantis Department would like to congratulate Local 412, Unit 9 Salaried Bargaining Unit (SBU) members from Detroit Assembly Complex Mack (DACM) on a recent NLRB victory.

The facility transitioned from the Mack Engine Plant to the Detroit Assembly Complex Mack Plant. During the plant transition, Company reassigned work from the SBU group to newly created non-bargaining unit classifications.

The Local Union working with the International Union filed a petition for unit clarification challenging the reassignment of work by seeking to add these new classifications to the bargaining unit.

The Director of NLRB Region 7 ruled that two new classifications at DACM are performing the same basic functions as SBU 311E and 311M Engineers performed at Mack Engine, and therefore these positions should be included in the SBU at the DACM facility.

As a result of this decision, the SBU workforce at DACM has reclaimed the work that the Company shifted to non-bargaining employees.

This decision can be appealed by the Company to the NLRB in Washington, D.C. if it chooses to do so.

The training provided an environment where union & management work together to help to prevent and reduce workplace violence.
